Local company to build Rosebery Schools
A Northern Territory company has won the $59 million tender to build two schools in the Palmerston suburb of Rosebery.
The Chief Minister and Education Minister Paul Henderson said the locally-owned Halikos Group would begin work this month, with the schools ready for the 2011 school year.
This is a great local project that will provide 150 jobs at the height of construction, create an extra 1450 educational places for our children and support growth in Palmerston, Mr Henderson said.
Halikos is an award-winning company with a reputation for building interesting and innovative designs and delivering major projects on time.
Mr Henderson said the new schools at Rosebery are part of the Government's record school infrastructure and upgrade program.
On top of our own infrastructure program, we are committed to implementing the Rudd Government's stimulus package that will see some $500 million flowing to the Territory - with a big part of that to be spent on school improvements.
Mr Henderson said with the suburbs of Bellamack, Zuccoli, Mitchell and Johnston coming on line, young families will no doubt continue to be attracted to Palmerston - Australia's fastest growing city.
The Rosebery school campus will include a combined preschool and primary, and a separate middle school. The two schools will share a gymnasium and oval. The gym will double as a cyclone shelter, he said.
There is also provision on the site for a future childcare centre with up to 50 places.
The Northern Territory Government is committed to providing all Territory students with a quality education, and is ensuring Palmerston families have access to the best possible education facilities for their children.
